Maple Syrup Producer of the Year

We’re proud to share that Maple Tap Farm won the syrup testing for the 2026 Festival! Their exceptional maple syrup stood out for its rich flavour, clarity, and quality – a true testament to their dedication and craft. Their syrup is the syrup you’ll be enjoying if you start your day with a Pancake Breakfast at Lion’s Hall.
Be sure to stop by their tent during the 2026 festival! You’ll find the Maple Tap Farm tents located directly behind HQ, the Festival Merchandise Tent, and the Taffy Tent at the south end of the mall on Arthur Street. Come say hello and taste this award-winning syrup for yourself!
TDS Farms Limited won the 2027 maple syrup contest and was awarded the title “Producer of the Year”. You will find their syrup on our freshly made pancakes at the 2027 festival! Make sure to stop by their booth in the downtown mall located by Festival Headquarters.
Tom has been making maple syrup his entire life, first helping his grandfather and father in the bush when sap was still collected by hand using pails. In the 1980s, his father started his own operation with approximately 2,000 taps, about half of them converted to sap lines.
By 2008, the operation had transitioned entirely to vacuum sap lines. By 2024, he was boiling sap alongside his father and his brother Graham from approximately 13,000 taps, including some custom boiling. As the operation continued to grow, it became clear they had outgrown their evaporator.
Beginning with the 2025 syrup season, he formed a partnership with his neighbour, Danny Trakalo. Together, they purchased a new evaporator and established their own sugar shack, marking an exciting new chapter in their maple syrup journey.
Maple syrup has always been a family endeavour, and that tradition continues today. His children and their spouses now help with the operation, and even his grandchildren are beginning to lend a hand – just as he once did years ago.
